the JTX Walking-Bus Tour

In addition to our regular menu of Trips & Tours, the JTX offers a special weekday tour service to small groups visiting the area on a 10-25 passenger van/coach/bus, and who can (& want to) get off the bus frequently, to experience the area:

1/2-Day: available Monday to Friday, by advance reservation only

For groups of 8-20

Not handicap accessible: ~1 mile walking w/breaks; on/off bus 3-5 times

Small bus groups will enjoy a guided outing in-and-around the unique and picturesque Victorian village of Jim Thorpe, PA which gives them a historic overview of the area and many sightseeing highlights.  Nestled between mountains next to the Lehigh River, this 200-year-old town has an amazing history, beautiful architecture, and many unbelievable stories.

Your tour includes an introduction to the area, then a bus ride through the historic downtown with discussion along the way.  A scenic overlook with a 40-mile view is followed by a short walk on ‘The Switchback Trail,’ formerly a very important railway.  We’ll walk part of the quaint downtown and discuss various aspects of history, money, and some bizarre facts while admiring the amazing architecture.  The basic tour allows time for shopping and/or lunch (on your own – arrangements can be discussed).   Optional tours include the Old Jail Museum, St. Mark’s Church or the Asa Packer Mansion.

Price:  $15 per person for walking-bus tour

+ $6 for Old Jail Tour

                     + $5 for St. Mark’s Church tour

                     + $9 for Mansion tour

Notes: To complete this tour properly, the group should come on a small coach with a driver who is competent enough to navigate narrow streets and maneuver the vehicle efficiently.

This tour can be modified to accommodate groups needing different tour itineraries due to various physical or time limitations, or due to interest in specific attractions; description will change accordingly, as will price.  Remember that Jim Thorpe is not an area that can be experienced completely while sitting on a bus: some activity is necessary!                                         **Not a handicap accessible tour**
